The Turkish National ERA Roadmap aims to lay down the basis for further implementation of ERA (European Research Area) priorities in Turkey in close cooperation with all relevant stakeholders. The measures included in the Roadmap will constantly evolve in order to address the changing conditions of the research and innovation environment in Turkey and Europe. The Roadmap entails framework objectives to strengthen joint efforts among Turkish STI actors in a wider context including national authorities, research organisations and universities. The integration of the Turkish Research Area (TARAL) into ERA as the main aim of the Roadmap is regarded as crucial to secure a vibrant research environment, a strong research capacity and stable scientific infrastructure where researchers and knowledge can circulate freely.

According to the Turkish Directorate for International Cooperation, the Roadmap aims to further eneourage joint activities among Turkish and European stakeholders to increase transnational collaboration and promote convergence of research and innovation policies between Turkey and Europe. lt is designed to form a closer link between ERA and TARAL to ensure that the joint R&I actions can address societal challenges and contribute to lasting economic growth and competitiveness.
