News archive - Event Announcement: Future of the Internet
Stakeholders will discuss 'The future of the internet - perspectives emerging from R&D and development in Europe'.
The first day of the event will be a public open day, which will be followed by a two-day technical workshop.
The internet has undergone far-reaching and profound changes since its early days and has become a critical communications infrastructure underpinning economic performance and social welfare. With an estimated 1.1 billion users worldwide today, the internet is poised to become a fully pervasive infrastructure providing connectivity anywhere, anytime. Due to the further deployment of wireless technologies, the number of internet users is expected to jump to some four billion in a matter of few years. This event will seek to provide answers to the challenges arising from emerging new technologies and societal issues related to the future internet.
