Description

The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (MAIB) is a Centre for post-graduate training, applied scientific research and design of in-loco partnership actions in the framework of the international cooperation programmes. It works in four thematic areas: “Land and water resources management”, “Integrated pest management of Mediterranean fruit and vegetable crops”, “Mediterranean organic agriculture” and “Sustainable agriculture, food and rural development”.

Mission: Promoting sustainable agriculture in the Mediterranean

In pursuit of its 3 objectives - Education, Research and Cooperation -, MAIB fosters the spirit of international cooperation among agricultural stakeholders in Mediterranean countries.

Goals

For MAIB, the synergy between training/education, applied scientific research and cooperation provides tangible answers to topical issues such as food safety and  agricultural quality.
Through unremitting attention paid to institutional dialogue in the Mediterranean region, MAIB is involved in a wide range of activities ranging from international programmes and national strategic plans to local initiatives.
All actions are carried out in a way that respects natural resources and biodiversity to enhance sustainable agriculture and face the challenges of globalization.
Its national and international networks make MAIB a platform for international institutions and organizations wishing to cooperate across the Mediterranean basin and in other regions of the world.
